About the NDYA
What is the NDYA?
The NDYA stands for the New Democratic Youth of Alberta. The NDYA is a province-wide political group for socially-aware Albertan youth between the ages of 14 and 25. As our name suggests, we adhere to the social democratic principles of the Alberta New Democrats and the Federal New Democratic Party.
What does the NDYA do?
The NDYA organizes and implements a variety of initiatives to increase each Albertan's awareness of social justice issues in addition to advocating a programme which challenges the predominant provincial, national and international capitalist social order. In addition to our activism, the NDYA collectively writes and circulates an official paper, The Catalyst, four times a year. We hold meetings twice per month where the activities of the NDYA are democratically decided and people with similar politics can meet new people and inevitably make new friends.
The NDYA & Social Issues
We feel that issues of working-class empowerment, gender equality, environmental sustainability, and the tolerance of sexual preference, as well as other struggles for social justice, provide the necessary foundation for the formation of a better, more humane, society. The NDP and the Alberta New Democrats are unique in that they are the only major parties, Federally and Provincially, that support every one of these initiatives. The NDYA is nothing but strengthened by this proud association.
