The NDYA's Environment Caucus was instrumental in the formation of the People's Pedal, a bike sharing program now operational in Edmonton. July 9 was the launch of the Pedal organized by Scott McAnsh, Chair of the NDYA Environment Caucus. August 20 marked the going away party of the incredibly lovable and loud NDYA member, Greg Mady. Unfortunately we were unable to capture the lightning-fast Greg on film, but other NDYAers were on hand to make sure that good times were had.
Jack was flown in specifically to meet with the good NDP folk of Alberta and ot help us with our fundraising for the upcoming Federal election. A lot of people showed up for the 24km bike trek through Edmonton's beautiful river valley.
Week of Welcome at the U of A is always a great opportunity for the NDYA to spread the good word and make their presence known to the thousands of new youth starting their studies. Our table was bumpin and Raj Pannu was even on hand to add a little bit o flair.
NDYA members came out to support the Make Poverty History campaign rally in Edmonton despite the *incredibly* cold weather and wind of Herculian proportions. NDP MLAs were there and Brian even gave an excellent speech explaining how the NDP was the only political solution that could systematically challenge poverty.
Over the course of September, some NDYA members went down to the Telus picket lines to show solidarity with the locked-out Telus workers. We chatted with the workers about the situation, marched in the line and heckled the "private security personnel"
The grand poo-bah (sp?) of all NDYA events, Convention 2005! Fun was had, tears were shed and worlds were saved. 1000s of pictures were taken to document the occasion but we could only hand pick 10 because of webspace restrictions. For those of you who were unable to make it, take one good hard look at what you missed!

The downtown Ramada in Calgary was ground zero for an NDP take over as members from all over the province congregated for Party Convention 2005. This was one of the best conventions in recent memory because it reflected the huge gains that the Party has been making in this province.
On April 10 the NDYA hosted a screening of the Greatest Canadian Tommy Douglas episode and brought out a group to support the anti-health care privitization rally at the Legislature. NDP MLA, David Eggen, was also on hand to give an excellent speech.
May 1st or May Day is the commemoration of the Haymarket Riot of 1886 in Chicago, and a celebration of the social and economic achievements of the international labor movement. May Day has since been recognized by workers around the world as the International Workers' day. Here are some captured moments from well attended Edmonton march.
On May 4th 2006, Jorge Martin, Hands Off Venezuela International Campaign Secretary, spoke in Edmonton, Alberta as a part of his speaking tour in Canada and the US. Jorge Martin spoke for about an hour about the relevance of the Bolivarian Revolution to the trade union movement around the world and most notably, the factory occupation movement by workers in Venezuela.
